Mutter Bundle #28: Hooray, You're Staying with Your Ex!

There it is. Finally, a Lumo train at Glasgow Queen Street station. A quick look at their website suggests that this 18:18 service is the only one running directly from Glasgow so far. Hopefully, this is simply a case of early days and more will follow.

No more teasing, no more throat clearing. The switch has been flipped, and Revolut Mobile is actually happening in the UK as we speak. On the menu we have unlimited calls, texts and data (running on Vodafone apparently), plus 20GB of EU+US roaming, with a generous helping of a NordVPN subscription. Sounds rather yummy, but as ever, a closer look at the Fair Use Policy would not hurt. Then again, at £12.50 a month as an introductory offer, rising later to £14.99, you might decide to relax and just tuck in, all served straight inside the Revolut app. Extras on the side include a £10 VIP number and up to three additional numbers at £2/month, just in case living life as only one version of yourself is not enough.

It feels like Apple’s iOS is being "androidified", one jurisdiction at a time, and Japan now seems next in line. New local regulations are set to open the door to alternative app marketplaces, and I swear could almost hear the heavy sigh from Cupertino when this came out.

I was today years old when I accidentally found out that if I submit another network’s STAC to giffgaff and then cancel another network’s number termination via the giffgaff dashboard, a little green success message that appears upon cancelling begins with “Hooray, you’re staying”.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the exact same message they show when you generate a giffgaff STAC to leave, then cancel that instead?
I mean, in the latter scenario, giffgaff thinks you were halfway out the door and decided to stay, so “Hooray…” makes sense. Yet in the former scenario, when it's another network that you have decided you are not quite ready to properly break up with, giffgaff’s cheering message sounds a tad misplaced, if you ask me.
What do you think?

The day, the sky, the mood, and the sheer monumentality of the surroundings... Pretty much everything conspired against colour and made it feel inevitable to shoot The Kelpies in black and white.

Ha. I’ve just found out that Instagram now limits the number of hashtags per post or reel to five. I briefly thought this was some kind of personal slap, wondering if I’d done anything that got me caught on the wrong end of Meta’s policy forest, as social media platforms tend to be... you know... extremely “consistent” with their rules. But no, it turns out it’s official and across the board.

My response on the giffgaff Community to a fellow member hoping we could get 5G SA and 5G Calling sooner rather than later:
If giffgaff were to offer this now, I'm pretty sure they would be the first UK MVNO to do so. Considering how they tend to drag their feet on innovation, even when a feature moves from “nice to have” to “needed yesterday” territory (think VoLTE and WiFi Calling), I would not be holding my breath. I would happily be proved wrong though.
