Mutter Bundle #11: A Pizza Opinion That Will Get Me in Trouble, and a Cambridge Cow to Distract from It

Let’s face it, we all kinda expected this. Many were even crossing their fingers, hoping it would shake things up for the better: better network and improved customer service.

It’s a green light from the CMA for Vodafone UK and Three UK to merge.

The sceptics will probably say that, legally binding commitments or not, there’ll be a honeymoon phase for customers at first, but brace-yourself pricing is most definitely going to follow.

We shall see.

Three has most definitely needed this. Their network seemed to be really struggling, and they just weren't able to shake off that perception of being "cheap and cheerful". Put it this way: if you're offered to pay Three, say, £20 for unlimited data, yes please! But as soon as the pricing goes up in line with the "big boys", well... you'd go to the big boys. A lack of customers willing to pay above bargain basement prices due to a struggling, underinvested network, and a lack of investment due to the chronic absence of customers willing to pay above bargain basement prices. That's the way I see it, anyway.

My Billing / Loyalty Suggestion for Slice Mobile. My post from the Slice Mobile community (https://slicemobile.discourse.group/t/how-about-1-monthly-or-every-2-months-plan-charge-reduction-up-to-20-instead-of-waiting-for-a-year-end-money-back/).

How’s this for a thought: rather than paying the same monthly charge and waiting for a year-end cashback, users could see the said monthly charge shrink gradually.

For example:

In the first two months, you’d pay £10 for the Mini plan.

By months 3 and 4, it drops to £9.90.

Then in months 5 and 6, it’s £9.80, and so on, until you’re paying £8 (20% discount).

To keep things a bit more fun, the pace could pick up after you hit a 10% discount. For example, instead of waiting two months for a reduction, it could drop 1% every month from then on. Or it could be a totally different progressive formula, you get the drift.

There could be a catch too: For example, if you pause and then renew your service, you’re back to square one (£10 as in the example above), and the countdown starts over.

The racked up discounts could also be applied when purchasing data add-ons, to make this even sweeter.

Wouldn’t seeing your bill get a little smaller each month be way more satisfying than waiting a whole year to see the cashback benefit?

What do you think?

My Two Cents on What Slice Mobile Should Consider When Expanding into Non-EU Roaming. Another Slice Mobile Community Post (https://slicemobile.discourse.group/t/help-us-prioritise-international-roaming/669/34).

I think, with all the discussions about roaming bundles, we’re in danger of losing sight of the bigger picture, which is global coverage, i.e., as many destinations as possible.

In fact, I’d even dare to say that ridiculously priced global coverage is better than attractively priced bundles that only cover a handful of countries.

Why?

First and foremost, 2FA, OTP texts.

If I’m off doing my bit of globe-trotting, I want to be sure my main UK number can receive those verification texts from as many corners of the world as possible. And once I’m confident it will, my second wish to the roaming-enabling genie would be the ability to receive those all-important GP/hospital appointment/job interview/whatnot calls at a price that’s not gonna make that GP appointment unnecessary by giving me a heart attack.

Only once that’s sorted will I think about whether my domestic SIM has a data bundle that compares well to the legion of travel eSIM offerings out there.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see nicely priced roaming bundles. The above is just my two pennies’ worth when it comes to priorities for roaming, that's all.

One of the best ways to get through February (and January, I suppose) is booking a cheeky city break, for there are plenty of post-festive, cheap-as-chips flight deals. Can’t go wrong with a day or three of a change of scenery.
