Mutter Bundle #9: Think of giffgaff — Think Wemyss Bay! Don’t Even Ask Me Why
22 Nov 2024 00:48
I’m going to say this now, knowing it has been said a few times before: giffgaff isn’t what it used to be. This isn’t necessarily meant in a negative way; things change, and so does giffgaff. However, it’s clear that it has shifted from that close-knit, cosy circle of members to a mass-market approach, to the point where it has even started offering something it seemingly tried to distance itself from in the past: contracts.
For the most part, giffgaff’s offering clearly lacks innovation or value-for-money appeal if you compare it to many other prepaid offerings or postpaid SIM-only 12–24 month contracts. In my opinion, there’s only one direct competitor for giffgaff: O2’s own Pay As You Go. In fact, with giffgaff kicking about, I really struggle to understand why O2 continues to maintain its rather bland Pay As You Go service, which lacks crucial features like 4G calling, VoLTE, and 5G.
Do you think it would make sense for O2 to eventually discontinue their Pay As You Go offering altogether and focus on postpaid customers, while leaving giffgaff for those wishing to go prepaid?

Stared at the vintage posters for a bit, letting out a 'Look at those prices, eh?' sigh as I remembered I had to shell out £10 to get here and back.

Had a crack at imagining life as one of the locals, whether in one of the modern spots or one of those cosy-as-an-old-jumper houses. It’s nice and peaceful here, with lovely views, and living here while working in Glasgow could be quite a decent shout, as commuting by train only takes about an hour each way.

Done some photocruising around the local church. Guess it’s time to head back to the train station.
